Our Story
Ricardo de Souza Neto entered the industrial refrigeration market in 2002. Over more than two decades, he worked across the sector's largest industries, on projects in Brazil and Latin America. Along the way he identified the root problem: poorly designed and poorly built equipment compromised robustness and, as a direct result, drove up maintenance costs over the entire service life. Smart Cold was born from this insight, pairing Ricardo's hands-on experience with an engineering answer to the problem: robust equipment, built to last and to run with predictable maintenance.
Smart Cold is a Brazilian commercial and industrial refrigeration manufacturer. We serve distribution centers, supermarkets, food industries, healthcare, and the cold chain with custom-built equipment and a full engineering cycle: sizing, fabrication, and installation by Smart Cold, and specialized maintenance by Frio Ideal, a group company.
Founded in 2021 in Vargem Grande Paulista, SP, Brazil, Smart Cold grew out of decades of accumulated technical experience and a clear purpose: to combine rigorous engineering, up-to-date technology, and close, personal service. In just a few years we structured our operations and expanded our client base across Brazil, always focused on energy efficiency for industrial refrigeration.

Smart Cold was founded in 2021, in Vargem Grande Paulista/SP, building on the experience of Ricardo de Souza Neto, who entered the industrial refrigeration market in 2002 and worked on projects in Brazil and Latin America. The company was created to solve this with robust equipment, built to last and to run with predictable maintenance.
What makes Smart Cold equipment robust?
The design and construction of each line, the issue that led to the company's founding. In the condensing units, the structure is steel sheet with electrostatic powder coating, the electrical panel has full protections, and the compressors have parts available in Brazil. In the multi-compressor racks, 2 to 6 compressors in parallel provide operational redundancy, the electrical panel has per-compressor protections, and the modular structure allows maintenance without a full operational shutdown. In the plug-ins, all components are easy to access for quick maintenance.

Frio Ideal has provided services since 2010 for any client and for equipment from any manufacturer; Smart Cold has manufactured equipment since 2021. For Smart Cold equipment, Smart Cold designs, manufactures, and installs, and Frio Ideal, the sole provider authorized to maintain it, handles preventive and corrective maintenance, emergency response, and ongoing support.
