Preventive and corrective maintenance are performed by Frio Ideal, a group company and the sole provider authorized to maintain Smart Cold equipment. This arrangement preserves the 12-month equipment warranty provided by Smart Cold, as set out in the purchase agreement.

A retrofit usually pays off when the components that will stay (structure, piping, evaporators) are in good condition and the efficiency loss lies in what will be replaced, such as the controls or the compressor; when several components reach the end of their service life at the same time, replacing the system tends to be better. Age alone does not decide: in a young but operationally inefficient system, upgrading the controls and adding a variable-frequency drive is generally a good investment. If the installation is due to be decommissioned, the retrofit has to pay for itself before then, unless there is regulatory non-compliance, which requires action. For systems running on R-22, a refrigerant whose imports are increasingly restricted in Brazil, converting to another refrigerant approved by the equipment manufacturer is one retrofit option; moving to CO₂ or ammonia amounts to a new project.
