Bomi Group operates a distribution center dedicated to healthcare products for UPS Healthcare, an environment where temperature is not an operational detail but a quality requirement. Every stored pallet depends on a cold chain that cannot fail. A temperature deviation, however brief, compromises sensitive product and the compliance the pharmaceutical sector demands.
Before Smart Cold and Frio Ideal took over the refrigeration operation at the logistics center, the facility lived with recurring temperature excursions: out-of-range variations that, in a healthcare distribution center, pose a direct risk to product and operations. The problem was not isolated. It was structural, tied to the refrigeration infrastructure as a whole, which needed to be rethought rather than patched.
The project involved reworking the distribution center's entire refrigeration infrastructure. This was not a one-off intervention but a rebuild of the cold rooms' refrigeration system. The operation now runs on ceiling evaporators distributed along the cold rooms, compressor racks sized for the facility's thermal load and, the decisive factor in a healthcare environment, continuous control and monitoring.
Each cold room runs under a Frio Ideal control panel with a dedicated temperature controller, staged operation and a full set of protection alarms: phase loss, thermal protection, fan failure and heater trip, among others. It is not just about cooling. It is about seeing the system in real time and acting before a deviation becomes a problem. Preventive maintenance and monitoring are handled by Frio Ideal, keeping the designed performance stable over time.
Recurring temperature excursions gave way to a stable, monitored operation. The UPS/Bomi distribution center now relies on a dependable cold chain, with continuous visibility of every cold room and rapid response to any anomaly: the foundation a healthcare environment needs to operate safely and in compliance.
